Kohl
Center vs. Resch Center
The WIAA is real
close to deciding the future location of the state
tournament for high school boys and girls basketball.
After
considerable consideration of different options, there
appears to be only 2 choices: move to the Resch
Center in Green Bay or stay at the Kohl Center in
Madison.
The WIAA Board of Control
received a presentation Wednesday, Jan. 25, from each of
those 2 venues, and a
decision may be made at the WIAA meeting on March 2,
2012. Personnel from each venue made their final offer
regarding their site during the
winter meeting of the WIAA Board.
Due to a
known scheduling conflict regarding hockey with the Kohl Center affecting
the future venue of the State Boys and Girls Basketball
Tournaments, the Board also had earlier received an official proposal
from PMI Entertainment Group representing the
Resch Center in Green Bay to host the two tournaments
beginning in 2014.
There was
discussion that perhaps the move to a new site MIGHT
take place in 2013, as well as would the Big 10
Conference change its hockey format and therefore
"open up" the Kohl Center on the WIAA dates.
It appears
the WIAA is perhaps not interested in moving to the
Alliant Energy Center in Madison, and is not interested
in a return to the UW Fieldhouse in Madison -- because
those are both old, outdated facilities plus there is no
formal guarantee that either will be renovated anytime
soon.
